Watch the video together and discuss:
[Parent] Without divulging details, share how porn affects relationships/ through relating your own experience or someone else’s story.
[Child] If you stumbled on porn, what would help you
[Both] Discuss the plan of action to both intervene in the situation above as well as prevent such occurrences (e.g. access digital devices only in “public spaces” in the home or leave the room door open, agree on a code word such as “yucky” to cue both parent and child to address the issue calmly and together).
Wrap it up:
Pornography is harmful not only because it is highly addictive like drugs, but because it paints a distorted picture of sex and disrespects people by treating them (typically women) like objects to be used and thrown away thereafter. This affects our relationships and understanding of what love is.
