Whether you are going through emotional distress or relationship challenges, we are here to help.
Thankfully, my husband was not ready to quit so I casually suggested counselling. I was pretty indifferent in the first couple of counselling sessions but gradually found myself opening up to the counselor and then eventually, to the problems we faced on hand.
For the first time in my marriage, I actually felt heard. The counsellor helped us to effectively identify the deep-seated problems and when these were resolved, she moved on to equip us with the skills necessary for a fulfilling marriage. Ever since we sought forgiveness from each other, we took steps to engage in heartfelt conversations and became more mindful of each other’s needs. This ultimately led to our reconciliation.
Before coming in for counselling, I had struggled many years with depression. It took a toll on my physical and mental health and eventually led me to seek help through counselling at Focus.
In the past few months, my counsellor and I have worked together towards better handling my emotions and social situations where conflict may arise. Not only did it helped me deal with specific incidents that have caused me pain, I have also learned how to moderate my emotions so that I don't act rashly or become overwhelmed by waves of negative emotions.
I am grateful to my counsellor for being patient and supportive every step of the way.
For example, using a soft voice and gentle touch helped diffused my child’s tantrums and meltdowns a lot faster.
My counsellor reminded me that the relationship and bond with my child is more important than school work etc. This shift in perspective helped me avoid power struggles with my child. My relationship with my son has since improved and he is not as easily triggered these days.
Even though there are still big meltdowns, I am better equipped in handling them now. Although I only had a handful of sessions with my counsellor, they have made such a huge difference. Thank you!

Absolutely. You can request a senior counsellor or opt for a more affordable Counselling Associate-led session.
The number of sessions is dependent on your needs and goals that are typically discussed at the start of the counselling journey.
The first appointment is an intake session where the counsellor will seek to understand what led you to counselling, any symptoms, emotions or thoughts you've been experiencing and coping mechanisms.
Questions about your history, family background, past relationships and experiences are typically included. The counsellor and you also discuss goals and outcomes you hope to achieve from counselling.
