What is masturbation?

Watch the video together and discuss:

[Parent] Share a story about how you learnt the value of self-control.

[Child] Name some activities you enjoy. Include a range of different activities, such as those that can be done alone as well as those that can be done with others.

[Both] Discuss a few ways we can distract ourselves from pursuing the urge to masturbate.

Key points

  • Our sexual organs were designed to provide pleasurable sensations.
  • While sexual feelings are normal, masturbation is not a health habit to pursue. It can often distract us from other productive activities, such as learning a new hobby or spending time with family and friends.
  • Sexual satisfaction is designed to be found and fulfilled in marriage.

Wrap it up:

  • Our sexual organs were designed to provide good feelings of sexual satisfaction, but for the greater purpose of achieving sexual intimacy in marriage, which holds the potential to create new life.
  • While masturbation is normal and brings about pleasurable sensations, it is often linked to pornography to provide the stimulation and can develop into a harmful addiction.
