Ms June Yong, family life specialist at Focus on the Family Singapore, suggested parents identify potential areas where they can best use their talents.
"Working parents are often time-stretched and tired, so volunteering at school events is probably the last thing on their minds," she said.
"We may want to consider that if we volunteer our skills in areas where they are most needed, the school as a wider community of students, educators and parents benefit."
Parents can also help out on an ad hoc basis.
"Many parents are motivated to volunteer because they get to see their child 'in action' at school, so certain events such as sports day, Mother Tongue Fortnight or Racial Harmony Day are popular among parents," she said.
